Dr BLT (Bruce L Thiessen, Ph.D.)
DR BLT IS San Diego-based, PROLIFIC SINGER/SONGWRITEr/psychologist with Canadian prairie Roots
Hello, I'm Dr. B.L.T., The Song Shrink. Think of a hybrid, combining a licensed clinical psychologist and a singer/songwriter. Sacramento News and Review called me "Freud Meets Hendrix," but "Freud Meets Johnny Cash" may be more accurate.
Let me tell you a little bit more about my songwriting. I am a storyteller whose songs are characterized by clever hooks and unique psychological perspectives.
My songs are a reflection of my journey. My journey began on a Saskatchewan prairie farm, and involved moving back and forth with my family from the country to the city.
My lyrics reflect the tension between rural and urban life. They tap into every emotion, and boldly break multiple genre boundaries. My greatest strength is that I draw freely from my imagination.
My songs offer something special for music publishers, rising stars, co-writers, and Dr BLT fans alike. In 2020, heretofore, I have, with the help of my producer, Jason Peri, released a total of 4 full-length CDs, in 2020, with at least one more expected prior to the year's end.
My perspective, emphasizing the therapeutic value of music as a cathartic outlet for bottled up emotions, is widely documented, beginning with my cameo on Cake's MTV-video-music-award-nominated music video for Short Skirt/Long Jacket.
I am regularly published, and frequently quoted on a wide range of mental health-related topics. I have been praised by artists from P!nk to Buck Owens, who compared me to Johnny Cash, unworthy though I may be.
If you are looking for your next country hit song, I can provide you with an abundance of great song material. Or if you are interested in co-writing, I am most certainly available for that also. Please contact me for more information. Am I prolific? I'll let you be the judge.
